About Voice Movement Practices
This work is a blend of Voicework with a Somatic approach and a variety of Movement practices. This approach is deeply informed by the polyvagal theory, somatic work, deep relaxation and breath work combined with compassionate listening and radical inclusivity of all parts of self. This practice includes deep rest, relaxation, breath awareness and compassionate listening, the ebb and flow of activity and rest.
Yasia works with various movement modalities, relaxation techniques and breath awarness as a crucial part of facilitating both the deepening connection to sound and body as well as the freeing and open the power of the voice. Yasia sees body and voice as one instrument (of course!). To be able to free up ones voice, includes freeing up, as well as landing more deeply in the body. To find the power and wings of your voice, means to really land more and more deeply into the body. To radically include the places where your body, your sound and your nervous system tell the stories of self identity, self worth, belonging and past experience. The ways that movement, rest, deep relaxation and breath can allow the gentle unravelling and melting of these places in a resourced and titrated way.
There are so many moments and ways we can feel/ hear our voice is more resonant at times and then thinner/ ‘caught’/ tighter or even silent (in terms of outward expression) at other times - this is the way our muscle and bone, breath and psyche have learned to manage in times of unsaftey and challenge. The body, breath and psyche also hold the potentiality of more resonance, ease and power in our self expression and sound, especially when given the resources needed to melt the old patterns and allow a new ongoing unfolding relationship to ones sound and voice.
Yasia has been exploring movement and voice, integrating Voicework, and Movement practices for the past 15 years. Yasia’s own voicework journey began in her early 20s and hasn’t stopped ever since! (she’s now quite a bit older than that :D)
Alignment with Voice and your vision for your life
No need to have any singing or ‘dance’ experience, we work with the premise that you already know from deep inside you, how to express through these mediums as they innately belong to each one of us, our birth right, rather than the privilege of a few. If you can breath you can sing, if you can move you can dance. Movement includes internal movement, and all kinds of ways movement is possible for you in the body you are in.
These sessions are run for groups and for one:one work both online and in person.
Please note: whilst these sessions are deeply therapeutic in nature, they are not therapy. Should you need more one to one support of that kind, please avail of it. Also please note you are responsible for your physical well being - if you do have injuries of any kind please be sure to let Yasia know and to bring appropriate supports/ participate in ways that are manageable for your body.
